Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday said though the party failed to get desired results in electoral experiments, it has made one thing clear that only SP can stop communal forces from coming to power.

Addressing the ninth state convention of the party being organised at Ramabai Ambedkar park, Akhilesh said, “It’s a dream of SP to push forces dividing the society out of power and for this the party made all possible sacrifices at all levels.”

He said taking a historical decision SP tried to bring the power of Bahujan Samaj on one platform. We made an effort to realise the dreams of Dr Ambedkar and Dr Lohia by making sacrifices at all levels.

The people of SP wanted a major victory, but those sitting in power misused their power. We forged an alliance in 2019 and after that we again brought people of the same ideology on one platform. We didn’t win, but our vote percentage increased. From this one thing is clear that only SP can prevent the communal forces from coming to power.”

The SP chief said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has done nothing in Uttar Pradesh as compared to works done during SP’s regime. During this, he also raised the issue of expansion of metro service, construction of highways, cleaning of rivers and referred to the achievements during the tenure of the SP government.

Akhilesh said when the SP will come to power it will work in the interest of the farmers and the entire society will be educated. On the first day of the convention Naresh Uttam Patel was again appointed the president of the state unit of the SP.

Senior party leaders Kiranmoy Nanda, Ram Gopal Yadav and Uday Pratap Singh along with the office bearers of all district units were present on the occasion. In the inaugural session of the convention, a proposal to make Naresh Uttam the state president of the SP again was presented which was passed unanimously.
