Operations against terrorism ongoing in J&K: DGP Prabhat

Asserting that the terrorist killed in the recent Basantgah gunfight in the Udhampur district was a top commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad, Director General of Police, Nalin Prabhat today said that the operations against the terrorism are ongoing in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The Jaish terrorist killed in Basantgarh in the last week of June was the top commander,” DGP Prabhat told reporters at the sidelines of an event in Akhnoor area here in the city outskirts.

He said that the operations against terrorism are still going on in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The terrorist killed in Dudu-Basantgarh forests was the oldest and the top commander, who was active in the area,” he stated.

On the recruitment of border youth in Jammu and Kashmir Police, he said, “will definitely suggest it.”

DGP Prabhat was attending a programme organised as Police Station Akhnoor has been judged as the Best Police Station of Jammu and Kashmir for the year 2024 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India.

To commemorate the achievement, DGP Prabhat, visited Police Station Akhnoor and presented the Certificate of Excellence to the dedicated team.

He was accompanied by IGP Jammu Zone, B S Tuti, IGP CRPF Jammu, Gopala K Rao, DIG J&K Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, DC Jammu Sachin Vaishya, and SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh.

MLA Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Bhagat was also present as special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, DGP Prabhat congratulated the Jammu Police team for this significant achievement and encouraged all officers and personnel to continue striving for excellence in service to the public.

While presenting the award, the DGP lauded the exceptional performance of then SHO Tariq Ahmed, SDPO Mohan Sharma and SP Rural. Brijesh Sharma, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh, for their outstanding leadership and dedication in 2024.

He also extended his best wishes to the present SHO Sanjeev Chib and SDPO Varinder Gupta for continuing the legacy of excellence.

IGP Jammu Zone, B S Tuti, also congratulated the team of Police Station Akhnoor and urged them to maintain the same level of professionalism, commitment, and public service in the future.

This recognition stands as a testament to the hard work, discipline, and community-focused policing demonstrated by the officers and staff of Police Station Akhnoor, under the leadership of SP Rural Jammu and the overall guidance of SSP Jammu, said the police spokesman .

The recognition forms part of a nationwide initiative by the Police Modernisation Division of MHA, supported by the Trans-Rural research agency.

A total of 17,932 police stations across India were evaluated, out of which 76 were shortlisted based on stringent performance criteria. Police Station Akhnoor secured its place among the top-performing stations in the country.

The initiative to recognise the best police stations was launched in 2015 by the Prime Minister of India during the DGP and IGP Conference held in Kutch, Gujarat.

Since then, it has become a regular feature of the Ministry of Home Affairs, aimed at promoting excellence, innovation, and citizen-friendly policing across the nation.
