Colombo, May 13 (UNI) Sri Lanka’s opposition party Samagi Jana Balwegaya on Friday challenged the newly-appointed Prime Minister Ranil Wickremeisnghe to prove a majority in the island’s Parliament.
SJB also stated that no one from the party would accept any post in the new cabinet. “No one from the SJB will accept ministerial port folios in the new government to be formed as the Prime Minister Wickremesinghe has no mandate to form a government. We challenge him to show a majority of 113 seats in Parliament,” Daily Mirror quoted Madduma Bandara as saying in a press conference. “Only Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MPs have consented to take up ministerial posts in the new government,” he said.
“We shall go ahead with the motion to denounce President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in the House next week and if that is approved by Parliament, Premier Wickremesinghe will also have to quit as it is also a similar to a no confidence motion against the government,” he also said.
It is to be noted that the newly-elected PM represents a party of one person in Parliament. On Thursday, United National Party (UNP) leader and five-time PM Ranil was sworn in for the sixth time to lead Sri Lanka, as the island nation grapples with an unprecedented economic and political crisis.
