Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly of Pakistan and chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, called on the government to resume dialogue with Afghanistan, warning that tense relations with the neighbouring state and political miscalculations are exacerbating Pakistan’s economic woes, Afghan news portal Ariana News reported.
Achakzai believes Pakistan’s current economic difficulties are rooted in misguided government policies that have led to the loss of Afghanistan as an economic partner, which until recently was a key export market for Pakistani goods, the report said on Tuesday.
According to the report, Achakzai noted that Afghanistan remains strongly interested in Pakistani goods and asserted that Islamabad’s policies have undermined its own economic interests.
He reportedly urged Pakistan’s leadership to seek practical solutions through dialogue and reform of its policies to address both economic pressures and regional instability.
