Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tributes to the country’s former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on his 45th death anniversary being observed on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Sharif said that Bhutto played an important role in promoting democracy and democratic traditions in Pakistan.

“Bhutto led from the front to form the country’s first constitution which was agreed upon by all political parties unanimously in 1973,” said the prime minister.

Bhutto, born in 1928, served as the country’s president from 1971 to 1973 before ruling the country as prime minister from 1973 to 1977.

He was executed on April 4, 1979, on the orders of the court under the allegations of involvement in the murder of his political opponent.

However, the Supreme Court of Pakistan gave a decision last month saying that Bhutto was not given a chance of a fair trial in the murder case.
