Govt directs DGP to visit spot

Srinagar: Tension has gripped the state following the attack on three Kashmiri truckers in Udhampur district in Jammu province on Saturday while observing shutdown over cow carcasses, by the right-wing BJP on Friday evening.

The victims hail from the Bijbehara area in South Kashmir. The township erupted into protests after news about the attack over truck drivers spread in the township today afternoon.

The protestors blocked Srinagar-Jammu highway in Batengo village near Bijbehara and sought action against the accused.  

Zahid Ahmad and Showkat Ahmad of Batengoo and Uranhall in south Kashmir were injured in Udhampur attack carried out by a mob.

The government today said in the Assembly that two persons involved in the attack have been arrested. It assured the House that stern action under law would be taken against the culprits involved in the incident. The government said that Director General of Police is personally going to Udhampur to ascertain the factual position of the incident.
