The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today criticised the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference government for restricting the upcoming Assembly session to just five working days, calling it a deliberate attempt to evade accountability.
In a post on social media platform X, the PDP said the Omar Abdullah-led government came to power promising to give voice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, making the decision to keep the session “intentionally short” an irony.
The party alleged that by keeping the session intentionally short, the government has ensured that no debate takes place, allowing it to walk away without being held accountable on the floor of the House, especially as it completes one year in office.
According to a provisional calendar issued by the Assembly Secretariat yesterday, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to convene its fourth session from October 23.
The session will begin with obituary references on October 23, followed by a break on October 24 for the Rajya Sabha elections. October 25 and 26 will be off days, including the Sunday holiday.
Government business will be taken up on October 27, 30, and, if required, on October 31. The House will discuss Private Members’ Bills on October 28 and Private Members’ Resolutions on October 29.
