PM assured J&K statehood restoration promise will be honoured: Farooq Abdullah

National Conference president and former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has recently assured Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the Centre will honour its commitment of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.


Abdullah said the promise of restoration of statehood was made before the entire world.


“Our larger demand is the restoration of statehood,” Abdullah told reporters in Anantnag. This (restoration of statehood) was a promise made before the entire world. We are waiting for that promise to be fulfilled.”


Abdullah said that the Prime Minister had recently assured Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the commitment regarding restoration of statehood would be honoured.


“Prime Minister recently told Omar that he will honour the commitment,” Abdullah said.


The ruling National Conference has stepped up its campaign for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and is planning to stage a protest in Delhi on the opening day of the upcoming Parliament session. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has also invited leaders of the INDIA bloc to join the protest in support of the demand for restoration of statehood.
