Jammu and Kashmir Police in Srinagar have arrested a man involved in an ATM card swapping fraud.
On February 12, 2025, a woman Shaheena, a resident of Kupwara, filed a complaint at Police Post Bagya stating that an unidentified individual at an ATM inside the Dental College, Shreen Bagh, had deceptively swapped her ATM card and later withdrew Rs 40,000 from her account.
Police said a case under sections 318(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Safakadal.
A special team, led by Incharge Police Post Bagyas, launched an investigation, utilizing technical inputs and CCTV footage analysis.
“After strenuous efforts and with the help of technical input and analysis of CCTV footage from the ATM, it led to the identification of the suspect as Burhan Rah a resident of Bonpora, Nowgam,” police said.
The accused was subsequently arrested, and multiple ATM cards were recovered from his possession, they added.
The investigation is ongoing to determine the involvement of the accused in similar fraudulent activities, with more recoveries expected.
