Srinagar: Security forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge repeatedly to disperse pro-freedom demonstrators who were pelting stones in the Shehar-e-Khas (SeK) this afternoon.

The trouble started immediately Friday prayers were over in the historic Jamia masjid and other mosques in the SeK and downtown this afternoon.

As the demonstrators, raising 'pro-freedom' and 'anti-government' slogans, were moving towards police station Nowhatta, security forces and state police personnel deployed near the main gate of the Jamia masjid swung into action.
