Police on Tuesday attached properties worth around Rs 4 crore belonging to three alleged drug peddlers in separate actions in Awantipora and Srinagar as part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan.

In Awantipora sub district of south Kashmir, police attached a double-storey residential house and 7 kanals and 18 marlas of land worth approximately Rs 2.50 crore belonging to Nisar Ahmad Khanaday, a resident of Chersoo, Awantipora.

The action was taken under Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police said an inquiry conducted by the Incharge Police Post Toll Plaza under the supervision of senior officers established that the property had been acquired through proceeds generated from the illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Khanaday is reportedly involved in multiple narcotics-related cases.

Meanwhile, Srinagar Police attached immovable properties worth Rs 1.5 crore belonging to two alleged drug peddlers under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.

A three-storey residential house valued at around Rs 80 lakh in Nundresh Colony, Muslimabad, Srinagar, belonging to Sikander Firdous, was attached by Police Station Batamaloo under Section 68F(1) read with Section 68E of the NDPS Act. The accused is involved in FIR No. 18/2022 registered under various provisions of the NDPS Act and the IPC.

In another operation, Police Station Kralkhud attached a single-storey residential house worth about Rs 70 lakh belonging to Ghulam Hassan Bhat of Mirgund Kanalwan, Bijbehara, Anantnag. Bhat is accused in FIR No. 20/2022 under the NDPS Act and is presently on bail.

Police said investigations revealed that the attached properties were acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking.

Authorities said the move is aimed at dismantling the financial infrastructure of narcotics networks and preventing offenders from benefiting from illegal activities. The attachment orders also prohibit any sale, transfer, lease or creation of third-party interests in the properties.

Meanwhile, police in Anantnag booked a notorious drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT-NDPS) Act and registered cases against seven individuals for drug consumption.

Police said Nisar Ahmad Gagroo of Soaf Shali, Kokernag, was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act for his alleged involvement in multiple NDPS cases and persistent engagement in drug trafficking.

Following approval from the competent authority, he was lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu, where the detention warrant was executed.

In Bijbehara, five persons tested positive for drug consumption during a drive conducted jointly by police and a medical team using Rapid Drug Detection Kits. Separate FIRs under Section 8/27 of the NDPS Act were registered against them.

In another operation in Kokernag, two individuals were apprehended at different locations and subsequently tested positive for drug consumption during medical examination. Cases under Section 8/27 of the NDPS Act were registered, and investigations are underway.
