SRINAGAR, DEC 29 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari stages a protest in Srinagar on Wednesday against the Delimitation commission draft proposals.

Srinagar: Activists of the Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party on Wednesday staged a silent protest here against the delimitation draft proposal, giving clean chit given to security forces in the Hyderpora violence and allowing non-domiciles to own land in the state.

Led by its Chairman Altaf Bukhari, the activists held placards on which were scrawled ?Delimitation unacceptable? and ?Backdoor entry of non-domiciles through land reforms unacceptable?. They were protesting at Sheikh Bagh near the party headquarters in Srinagar.

A party statement said a protest march was carried out from its office at Sheikh Bagh to Lal Chowk where they were halted by police.

Talking to the media, Bukhari said: ?The protest was against the government policy to give backdoor entry to non-locals here in the name of Real Estate Summit.”

He added: ?We are not against investment, but we cannot accept any demographic changes.” He went on: “We cannot be subjugated in the name of development.”

Rejecting the Delimitation Commission report, Bukhari said: ?We are not going to accept a report in which Jammu has got six seats and the Kashmir Valley just one. This is unacceptable.?

Bukhari alleged that there was no media freedom in Jammu and Kashmir.”Where is freedom and where is democracy??
