Rain continues in Kashmir for second day, more on cards

Weather to turn mostly dry in J&K after today’s rain

Kashmir continued to witness light to moderate rainfall for the second consecutive day, while the fresh western disturbance triggered light snowfall in the higher reaches,officials said on Saturday.


According to data from the Meteorological Department, precipitation was recorded at several stations across the Valley. Srinagar received around 14.2 mm of rainfall, while Pahalgam reported a similar amount.


The highest rainfall was recorded in north Kashmir, with Kupwara receiving 19 mm, followed by Baramulla at 17 mm. The ski resort of Gulmarg registered 15 mm of rainfall during the same period.


In south Kashmir, Kokernag and Qazigund recorded 5.2 mm and 3.4 mm of rainfall respectively, indicating scattered precipitation across the region.


There was light snowfall over higher reaches of northern and central Kashmir region, including Sonamarg- Zojila belt, Kupwara and Gurez.


Despite the rainfall, night temperatures across the Kashmir division remained 2–3°C above normal at many places. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 1.5°C, while Srinagar settled at 10.7°C, which is 2.5°C above normal.


The Meteorological Department has forecast light to moderate rain, snowfall, and thunderstorms at widespread places across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours. The weather is likely to remain generally unstable over the subsequent two days, with fairly widespread to isolated spells of rain and thunderstorms expected across the region.
