Restrictions eased in Leh amid calm, Mobile Data suspension to continue till Oct 3

A week after prohibitory orders were enforced in violence-hit Leh under Section 163 of the BNSS, authorities on Tuesday granted phased relaxations in restrictions as the district witnessed a peaceful atmosphere.

The initial relaxation was announced from 10 am to 2 pm. Later, with no untoward incidents reported, the administration extended the window till 5 pm.

The move brought life back to Leh town, as residents stepped out to buy groceries, vegetables, and other essentials, while labourers resumed work at construction sites. Deserted roads turned busy again with vehicles plying on town streets and highways, raising hopes of a return to normalcy.

Despite the relaxations, educational institutions — schools, colleges, and universities — remained closed.

Meanwhile, mobile data services, including 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G, and public Wi-Fi, continue to remain suspended following orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The suspension will stay in place until 6 pm on October 3.(KINS)
