A controversy flared up after Christian missionary school flinged Rakhis in dustbin enraging the parents who stormed on the premises along with a few Hindu activists, questioning the action on Friday.
The incident took place at the Infant Mary English Medium High School at Katipalla on Friday.
As soon as the information on the incident reached the police, they swung into action and rushed to the school to bring the situation under control.
The incensed parents sought to know what was wrong in allowing Raksha Bandhan when the school allows students to celebrate Friendship Day.
In an attempt to douse the boiling situation, the institution chief Vandaneeya Santosh Lobo said he is not aware of the controversy and he is for Raksha Bandhan as it is a good tradition.
He requested the parents not to misunderstand and claimed that he used to get the rakhis tied on his wrists by Hindu girls in Kerala for the last six years.

Lobo assured the parents and Hindu activists that the school will not restrict celebrating raksha bandhan on its premises. “I will summon the schoolchildren and tell them that there is no problem in tying rakhis,” he said.
Lobo cried in surprise when the police visited the school and informed him about the incident. “I was surprised when the police visited our school enquiring about the incident because we are a harmonious society and we do not tolerate hurting the religious sentiments of other faiths. We also do not foster it,” he said.
