A multi-tier security is in place across Kashmir to prevent any untoward incident during the Independence Day celebrations on Thursday.
The security around the Bakshi stadium , the venue of the main Independence Day celebrations in Srinagar, has been tightened and a three-tier security has been thrown around the stadium.
Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will unfurl the tri-colour at Bakshi Stadium.
Officials said the security agencies across Kashmir are on a high alert and security men have increased their vigil to thwart any militant design ahead of the Independence day.
Along with the ground surveillance, security forces are also keeping an eye on the situation closely through aerial monitoring, they said.
The joint teams of Police and CRPF on Wednesday conducted random searches of passengers and private vehicles at many places in the city. The bikers were also thoroughly frisked by the security men. Surprise naka’s were laid to keep an eye on the situation.
A senior police officer said that vigil has been increased in wake of gun battles across J&K in the recent past. While a gun battle is underway in Patnitop area in the Doda district of Jammu region, south Kashmir’s Anantnag district witnessed an encounter four days ago in which two elite para soldiers were killed.
“The gun battles have prompted us to increase the vigil,” he said, adding that night patrolling has been increased in all parts of the valley.
The police officer added that foolproof security arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the function.
“We have increased the concentration of our men on roads,” he said.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, on Tuesday that all security measures had been put in place to ensure peaceful conduct of celebrations across the Valley.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has already extended an open invitation to people for the I-Day event on August 15.
