Security beefed up on Indo-Nepal border for PM’s visit

Basti (UP), May 13 (UNI) Security has been beefed up on the Indo-Nepal border in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Lumbini and Kushinagar on May 16.

Inspector General of Police (IG) Rajesh Modak told UNI that due to PM Modi’s visit to Lumbini and Kushinagar on May 16 security has been beefed up on the Indo-Nepal border. “Jawans of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) are maintaining a tight vigil on the border. Traffic has been banned in the wake of ongoing local elections in Nepal,” he said.
He said Superintendent of Police (SP) of Siddharth Nagar district Dr Yashvir Singh has been directed to maintain a vigil on security arrangements. “Officers of SPG and security and intelligence agencies are reaching the venue where they will inquire about the security arrangements and other issues,” he said.
The IG said security has been beefed up by SSB jawans on all borders, including Barhni, Khunuwa and Kapilvastu and the local police are maintaining a vigil on the activities of the criminals. “Everyone coming from the border region is being cross-examined by the police and SSB jawans and the reason for their arrival is also being asked. Vehicles are being checked of which video recording is also being done,” he said.
Modak said a special campaign has been launched against the smugglers and action is being taken against those involved in smuggling of contrabands.
Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate an international auditorium at Lumbini and will also visit places of Buddha during his visit.
