Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said someone has to be held responsible for the intelligence failure which led to April’s Pahalgam attack which killed 26 people.
Reacting to a statement by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha-who termed the incident a grave security lapse and took personal responsibility-Omar said such a major attack could not have occurred without a serious breakdown in the system.
“We know there must have been a failure; otherwise, such a big attack would not have happened,” Omar told reporters in Srinagar.
“Now, one thing is first acknowledge the failure. After that, who is responsible for the failure? he said it that intelligence also had a failure. So if intelligence had a failure, then who is responsible for it It cannot be that 26 people lose their precious lives and after that there is no progress from our side,” he said.
“Now when we believe that security and intelligence have failed, then someone will have to be held responsible for it.”
Asked about Monday’s incident, when the cops tried to stop Chief Minister to Srinagar’s Martyrs graveyard. Omar said it “should not have happened.”
“It is unfortunate because the law was not being broken anywhere from our side.If there was a ban,
it was on the 13th (July), not the 14th,” he added.
