The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said they have launched a probe into a scuffle at a local mosque of Upper Bhelli, Arnora area of Doda and urged people to stay away from rumours.


Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Sandeep Mehta in a statement said late on Thursday evening, information was received at police station Doda about some altercation at a local mosque of Upper Bhelli, Arnora area between two groups of the same religion over the appointment of an imam.


“A police team was dispatched to the village,” said Mehta, adding the team after assessing the situation seized the CCTV footage of the incident and an FIR in the matter was lodged at police station Doda. “An investigation is going on,” he said.


“All those responsible and involved in the case will be booked and brought to justice,” he said, appealing to people not to pay any heed to rumours.


“In case of any clarification, people should contact PCR Doda or SHO Doda,” Mehta said.
