United Nations/New Delhi, May 6 (UNI) India’s Permanent Representative to the UN TS Tirumurti slammed the Netherlands’ envoy to the UN for criticizing India’s abstention at the UN General Assembly on Ukraine.
As TS Tirumurti posted on Twitter India’s statement to the UNSC calling for cessation of hostilities and for diplomacy and dialogue as the way out of the Ukraine conflict, the Netherlands’ Ambassador, Karel van Oosterom, in a tweet said India should not have abstained at the UNGA.
“You should not have abstained in the GA. Respect the UN Charter,” Oosterom tweeted.
Tirumurti retorted with: “Kindly don’t patronize us Ambassador. We know what to do.”
The West has not taken kindly to India’s abstention at the UNSC and UNGA on condemning Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, and has been trying concertedly to persuade India to join them against Moscow, which New Delhi has resisted, maintaining a neutral stance.
