Trump says empty oil tankers en route to US to load crude as Iran sets conditions for talks

US President Donald Trump on Saturday said large numbers of empty oil tankers were heading to the United States to load crude and gas, underscoring the country’s energy capacity.

“Massive numbers of completely empty oil tankers, some of the largest anywhere in the world, are heading right now to the United States to load up with the best and ‘sweetest’ oil (and gas!) anywhere in the world,” he said in a post on Truth Social, adding that the US holds more oil than the next two largest economies combined.

Iran has set four non-negotiable conditions for any agreement in the ongoing Islamabad talks, according to state media.

These include sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz, full compensation for war damages, unconditional release of frozen assets, and a sustained regional ceasefire.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met US Vice President JD Vance ahead of the anticipated talks between Washington and Tehran.

The US delegation included special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, while Pakistan was represented by Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Sharif welcomed both sides’ willingness to engage and expressed hope that the dialogue would pave the way for durable peace.

As per Reuters, US official denied reports that Washington had agreed to unfreeze Iranian assets.
