Two unidentified terrorists were killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said today.
The infiltration bid was foiled as the security grid remains on heightened alert along the LoC, with officials anticipating an increase in such attempts before heavy snowfall closes mountain passes.
The latest infiltration attempt was foiled in Machil sector of Kupwara.
In a post on X, the Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps said that based on specific intelligence input provided by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and corroborated by other agencies, a joint operation was launched in the Machil sector of Kupwara yesterday.
“Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists,” Army said.
The identities and the group affiliation of the two could not be established immediately.
The Army’s Chinar Corps added that a large quantity of weapons and equipment was recovered from the encounter site.
The operation, codenamed ‘Op Amar, was jointly conducted by the Indian Army and J&K Police, and search operations in the area were still in progress when reports last came in.
Additional Director General of BSF Satish S. Khandare two days ago had said the force has intensified vigil along the LoC in Kashmir in view of the likelihood of increased infiltration attempts from across the border ahead of the winter season.
