Srinagar: Even though the Upper House disallowed the motion by some legislatures to discuss the thrashing of Er Rashid by some MLA’s of BJP, the mounting pressure from opposition who earlier staged walkout pushed the BJP on back foot from its rigid stand and forced to apologize in Lower House. Beef party

The BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister apologized in the House after senior legislature from National Conference; Mohammad Akber Lone sought an apology from Chief Minister over the embarrassing incident.

“We are back in House after Law Minister, Basharat Bukhari assured us that Chief Minister will apologize for the incident,” Lone told speaker. However, Mufti refused and said his deputy has to apologize as men from his party are accused.

Following the remarks of Chief Minister, Nirmal Singh stood from his seat and termed the incident unfortunate.

“The incident was unfortunate and I feel sorry for that,” he said.

Cutting across the party lines the legislatures from many political parties strongly condemned the attack on Rashid by BJP legislatures in Lower House minutes before the proceedings started.

The BJP which earlier was demanding to lodge an FIR against the MLA for organizing beef party in upper House, eventually succumbed to the pressure mounting over it in both Houses.

The MLC’s of NC also had staged the walkout from Upper House over the lynching of Er Rashid. The NC leader Omar Abdullah had related the attempt with Dadri lynching by BJP men.

The Rural Development Minister Abdul Haq Khan in Upper House informed that no beef was served in a party organised by Er Rashid.

“Rashid had not prepared beef kebabs. The man (Er Rashid) always wants to stay in news,” Khan told the aggrieved opposition in legislative council.

“He got kebabs and pati from a shop,” he said and asserted, “Those were not beef kebabs.”
