Although 10 people were killed in a road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri on Monday when speeding truck collided head-on with a pickup van.
The van was carrying ten people, including two women. All of them died in the accident.
The accident occurred near Adlispur village on the Pilibhit-Basti highway, 40 km from the district headquarters at around 7 AM in the morning.
The impact was so severe that the front of the van was totally crushed and the heads of the passengers were shattered. One man’s face was completely torn apart and people were trapped between the seats.
Two people were thrown out onto the road. People nearby rushed to the scene, informed the police, and began relief efforts.
Police reported that the van was traveling from Lakhimpur to Sisaia when it was hit head-on by a truck coming from Bahraich. The truck was moving at high speed and suddenly lost control. The truck driver fled the scene after the accident.
Police have taken the bodies into custody and sent them for postmortem.
Police said the truck has been seized and search operation was underway to nab the truck driver.
Three of the deceased have been identified. They include Jaiveer Singh (25), of Bahraich; Adnan of Dhaurahra-Kheri and Pawan of Bahraich. Efforts are underway to identify the remaining deceased.
