The administration of US President Donald Trump is recalling nearly 30 career diplomats from ambassadorial and other senior positions at American missions abroad, the Associated Press reported citing sources.
According to the agency, heads of diplomatic missions in at least 29 countries were notified last week that their terms would end in January. All of them assumed their posts under the Joe Biden administration.
The largest number of US ambassadors were recalled from Africa. The countries where US ambassadors are recalled include Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Gabon, Cote d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Mauritius, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, and Uganda.
Six ambassadors were recalled from Asian countries: the US ambassadors to Fiji, Laos, the Marshall Islands, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
US ambassadors were also recalled from Armenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Slovakia, Algeria, Egypt, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, and Suriname.
