Zimbabwe women have brought in former West Indies pacer Courtney Walsh as a coaching consultant in a bid to qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh.

The final two spots for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be decided at the Qualifier beginning on April 25 in UAE.

Walsh, the first ever to reach 500 Test wickets, is already working with the team as they prepare for the 10-team tournament. Zimbabwe women are yet to make an appearance at the Women’s T20 World Cup, an ICC report said.

“We count ourselves fortunate and privileged to be able to bring in Courtney as a technical consultant for our campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi,” Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni said.

“He is one of the world’s greatest cricketers and we believe his experience at the highest level of the women’s game in particular will boost our chances of securing one of the two spots up for grabs at the main global showpiece later in the year,” Makoni said.

Walsh was in attendance during Zimbabwe’s recent home series against Papua New Guinea Women and will assist head coach Walter Chawaguta ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024.

Zimbabwe are in Group B alongside Ireland, the Netherlands, the UAE and Vanuatu.
