11 Killed in Suicide Bombing Near Baghdad Mosque

Baghdad: At least 11 people were killed and 20 others wounded in a suicide bomb attack at a Shiite mosque here in Iraq.

According to police sources, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive vest yesterday at the entrance of Ahlu al-Baiyt mosque, in Baghdad's al-Obeidi district.

The toll could rise further as ambulances and other emergency vehicles rushed to the scene. Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Iraq has been witnessing some of the worst violence in years. In 2014 alone, at least 12,282 civilians were killed and 23,126 injured, making it the deadliest year since the 2006-2007 sectarian violence, according to a recent United Nations report.
