In continuation of the ongoing anti-drug enforcement drive under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, J&K Police have taken action against illegal cultivation of narcotic crops in Anantnag, Sopore & Pulwama.
In Anantnag, acting on credible information regarding illegal cultivation of opium poppy plants, Police Station Kokernag promptly initiated action and registered a case vide FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act. During the course of investigation, a police team, accompanied by the Executive Magistrate and officials from the Agriculture Department, conducted a joint visit to the identified location at Village Narupora Chek. Upon inspection, it was found that illegal opium poppy cultivation had been carried out by one Mohd Yousuf Naikoo S/o-in-law of Ghulam Hassan Mir, a resident of Narupora Chek, on approximately 3 marlas of land. After completing all legal formalities, the illicitly cultivated opium poppy crop was destroyed on the spot.
In Sopore, on receipt of credible information regarding illegal cultivation of opium poppy at village Eddie Pora, Police Station Bomai registered FIR No. 33/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act, and investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation, a joint team comprising officials from Police, Excise, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Revenue departments, along with the concerned Lumbardar, conducted an anti-poppy cultivation drive at the said location in the presence of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, Zaingeer Bomai. During the drive, illegally cultivated poppy crop was identified and destroyed on the spot after completing all legal formalities. Samples were also collected and seized for further analysis. Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the case.
In Pulwama, Police achieved a significant success by detecting and destroying illegal poppy cultivation in village Monghama. It was reliably learnt that one individual, identified as Showkat Ahmad Shah son of Ali Mohd Shah resident of Monghama, had illegally cultivated poppy on his land. Acting promptly on the information, a police party reached the spot and confirmed the illicit cultivation. Accordingly, a case FIR No. 69/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Pulwama and investigation has been taken up. During the course of investigation, all legal formalities were duly completed and the accused has been arrested. The illegal poppy cultivation was destroyed on the spot in the presence of officials from the Excise, Agriculture and Revenue Departments.
