12 killed, 20 injured in blast at Islamabad district court

As many as 12 people were killed and 20 others injured in an explosion at the district and sessions court in Islamabad’s G-11 area on Tuesday, according to Dawn.

A security source told CNN that the blast near the city’s High Court is being investigated as a suicide attack.

12 people are dead and 20 sustained injuries in the blast, a senior Islamabad police official was quoted by Dawn.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

Videos circulating on social media showed flames and thick smoke rising from a charred vehicle behind a security barrier.

Security forces have cordoned off the area, and rescue and investigation teams are on site. Authorities have yet to release detailed information regarding the nature of the explosion or possible suspects.

Islamabad is a high-security zone and the blast occurred in the parking lot of the city’s busy judicial complex, an area that houses numerous high-ranking government offices.

No group has claimed responsibility so far. The attack comes less than a day after militants targeted a cadet college in northwestern Pakistan.
