Amarnath Yatra: NSG Commandos, SOG men conduct security mock drill at Jammu's Yatri Niwas base camp

The Commandos of National Security Guard (NSG) along with Special Operation Group (SOG) men of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday conducted a security mock drill here at the Bhagwati Nagar based Yatri Niwas ahead of Shri Amarnath Yatra starting from July 3.

“Security arrangements are well in place and to ensure the safety of the pilgrims, mock drills are conducted from time to time at the base camp and the adjoining areas before the start of the yatra,” said an official.

He said that today the National Security Guard (NSG) Commandos intensified their preparedness at the Shri Amarnath base camp.

“Security forces in Jammu are on high alert ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 3,” said officials.

They said that considering the safety of the pilgrims, the Ministry of Home Affairs has already deployed 70,000 additional personnel in Jammu and Kashmir for the 57 days long pilgrimage.

“Besides this, the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Indian Army are also actively engaged in security operations and security related exercises,” said officials.

“The NSG commandos conducted an extensive security drill at the Shri Amarnath Yatri Base camp with a motive to assess the preparedness.

Officials said that the NSG commandos, along with the Special Operations Group (SOG) men of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, carried out search operations at the base camp as part of a mock drill.

“The teams, along with dog squads, conducted a thorough search of the entire facility and also tested their readiness to respond effectively to any emergency situation,” they said.

To strengthen security for this year’s Amarnath Yatra, the Ministry of Home Affairs has already deployed 70,000 additional security personnel across Jammu and Kashmir.

The security forces have secured the approximately 400-kilometer national highway from Kathua to Srinagar, with personnel deployed throughout the route to maintain constant vigilance on the sensitive corridor.

In addition, surveillance and security measures have also been intensified along the International Border with Pakistan near Jammu.
