Srinagar: At least seventeen garment and footwear shops were gutted during Wednesday midnight at crowded business market in Gonikhan, Amirakadal here.
Officials said that fire broke out in upper floor of Khan Complex, there no casualties were reported.
The administration rushed Fire and Emergency Services to the spot to douse the flames and stop the blaze from spreading further in the market.
The officials said that the fire fighters had a tough time and succeeded in dousing the flames in the dawn.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmad Lone told KNS that the details of the damage due to fire are being assessed.
Affected shopkeepers said goods worth crores of rupees were gutted in the fire.
Police said they have registered a case and taken up investigation to investigate the cause of fire. (KNS)
