Despite the hijab row at university college of Mangalore and government first grade college at Uppinangady were solved after discussions with students and parents, as many as 19 students of government first grade college at Haleangadi in Dakshina Kannada district are still skipping classes.
The pro-hijab students are ostensibly facing loss of education after the college authorities strictly obeying the Karnataka High Court’s order disallowing wearing hijab in those educational institutions where the dress code is being implemented.
The pro-hijab students, however, argue that the High Court order is only applicable to pre-university colleges, not post-university institutions.
However, the Haleyangadi college authorities are making their efforts to convince the 19 pro-hijab students, but to no avail, college principal K Sridhar said.
The deliberations with parents of the protesting students were a damp squib, Sridhar said, adding that it was sad to see them missing classes and abruptly dropping out.
