2 civilians, soldier injured in ongoing Kulgam gun battle

Two civilians and a soldier were injured during an anti-militancy operation in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday evening, police said.

The gunfight broke out at Batpora area of Kulgam when the joint teams of forces launched a cordon and a search operation (CASO) following an input about militant presence.

“As the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter,” a police officer said.

In a tweet this evening, police said a soldier and two civilians were injured in the ongoing encounter.

“… All the 03 injured shifted to hospital for treatment. Operation going on,” the tweet said.

Prior to the Kulgam operation, this month nine militants have been killed in various gunfights in Kashmir.
