India on Wednesday strongly condemned the attack on Kuwait International Airport that killed an Indian national and injured several others amid escalating hostilities across the Gulf region.
In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said India had consistently called for the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure since the outbreak of the conflict in West Asia.
“We condemn the attack on the Kuwait International Airport today in which an Indian national has died and several of our nationals are injured. Since the onset of the conflict in West Asia, we have strongly urged that civilian populations and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted. We again call upon parties to cease such attacks,” the MEA said.
The ministry expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and said the Indian Embassy in Kuwait was extending all possible assistance to those injured.
“We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved family. Our embassy is extending all possible assistance to those injured. We remain in close contact with local authorities for the welfare of Indian nationals,” the statement added.
The MEA also said Indian Missions and Posts across the region had been placed on alert and were continuing to proactively support the Indian community amid the deteriorating security situation.
The statement came after Iranian missiles and drones struck Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, killing one person, an Indian national and injuring at least 63 others in one of the most significant attacks on Gulf infrastructure since the conflict escalated.
According to Kuwaiti authorities, airport workers and passengers were among the injured, with several requiring emergency surgery. The attack caused extensive damage to Terminal 1 of Kuwait International Airport, forcing a temporary suspension of flight operations before services later resumed from Terminal 4.
Kuwait’s military said it had intercepted 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones since dawn, although debris from intercepted projectiles fell in several residential areas.
The attack has triggered widespread regional concern, with Gulf countries condemning the targeting of civilian infrastructure and calling for restraint as tensions continue to rise across the region.
