2 Hizb militants killed in Anantnag encounter

Srinagar, May 28 (UNI) Security forces shot dead two local militants in an encounter in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.

They said the gun battle erupted at Shitipora Bijbehara during an anti-militancy operation, which was launched on an input.

“As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately, which was retaliated. In the ensuing gun battle, two terrorists have been killed,” a police official said.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar identified the two as Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie of Anantnag and Yawar Ayub Dar of Awantipora.

“Both were affiliated with the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen (HM). The duo were involved in several terror crimes,” a police tweet quoted the IGP Kashmir as saying.

In the last four days, 12 militants including six suspected Pakistanis, have been killed in five gunfights in Kashmir.
