Amarnath Yatra: J&K Police begins tenants verification in Jammu city

Ahead of the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra starting from July 3, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have started the verification of the tenants in the city area, especially in localities adjoining the Bhagwati Nagar-based Yatri Niwas.

Official sources here on Wednesday said that the security forces have intensified the security-related initiatives as the yatra is scheduled to begin from July 3, and the police have also started verifying tenants residing in Jammu City.

“Jammu Police will create a database of all tenants residing in the city, especially those staying in the localities close to the Yatri Niwas,” they said.

They added that Jammu Police has further tightened security arrangements, adding. “Before the pilgrimage starts, a special tenant verification drive is being conducted in the city and nearby areas, focused on sensitive localities, places where pilgrims stay, major markets, langar sites (community kitchen), and areas around the Shri Amarnath Yatri Niwas, which serves as the base station for pilgrims.”

As part of this initiative, police teams in the Bhagwati Nagar area are conducting door-to-door campaigns, collecting information about tenants.”

“Under this campaign, police teams are gathering tenants’ names, phone numbers, and Aadhaar card details, and if any criminal record,” they said.

Official sources added that Jammu Police has instructed all Station House Officers to ensure 100 per cent tenant verification within their respective jurisdictions by June 30.

In fact, before the Amarnath Yatra, Jammu Police wanted to create a database of tenants to identify any anti-social or anti-national elements residing in the area.

“The police action is considered to be very important to prevent any untoward incidents during the pilgrimage,” said a local, adding that residents must cooperate with the police teams as it is in the welfare and interest of everyone.
