2 LeT militant associates held in Bandipora: Police

SRINAGAR, AUG 25 (UNI):- Security forces displaying arms and ammunition seized from two militants who were arrested by Army and police during an operation in Baramulla on Thursday.

Security forces arrested two militant associates of Lashkar-e-Taiba along with arms and ammunition in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday.

The two were arrested at a joint checkpoint set by police and Army in Bandipora while they were travelling in a vehicle.

“Today after receiving a specific information regarding the movement of some terrorist associates of LeT, two terrorist associates were arrested from Lal Qilla Mode Pethkote during a joint naka. The arrested LeT associates were travelling in a white Scorpio,” a police officer in Bandipora said

During search of the vehicle huge cache of arms and ammunition which includes three pistols along with magazines, 24 live 9 mm rounds, five hand grenades, a blanket and fake cards of police and health department, police said

The two were identified as Mohammad Yousuf Wani of Pethkote Bandipora and Manzoor Ahmed Shah of Bagh Bandipora.

“During preliminary investigation it was revealed that they where in touch with some active terrorists of LeT and the duo were tasked to revive militancy by motivating youth to join militancy and spread terrorism in the district, besides giving logistic support to terrorists,” the officer said.

“Timely arrest of these terrorist associates averted a major terror activity in the district,” he said.

Police has registered a case under relevant sections and further investigation has been taken up.
