Security forces shot dead two militants during a gun battle on Monday in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, police said.
They said the battle started at Nowpora-Kherpora, Trubji area of Kulgam during a cordon and a search operation.
“During the cordon and a search operation, as the presence of terrorists got ascertained, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the encounter so far, two terrorists have been killed,” a security official said.
Police said the operation in the area is still underway.
This month security forces have stepped up anti-militant operations in Kashmir and in June 31 militants have been shot dead.
