Due to the global crisis, the government is taking various steps to save energy in Bangladesh. As a part of this, the government has decided to make the weekly holiday of schools and colleges for two days.

This decision was taken in the virtual cabinet meeting held on Monday (August 22) under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister joined the meeting through video conference from the Gana Bhavan and the Ministers of State from the meeting room of the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat.

Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam gave this information in a press briefing at the Secretariat after the meeting. He said the Ministry of Education will decide when the leave will be effective.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anwarul Islam said that office hours have been fixed from next Wednesday to 8:00 am to 3:00 pm to save energy.

In the press conference, the secretary said that all government, autonomous and government offices will run from 8 am to 3 pm from August 24 to save energy. The bank will be open from 9 am to 4 pm. Besides, educational institutions will be closed for 2 days in a week.

Last February, the Minister of Education announced that from 2023, there will be a two-day weekend in all educational institutions starting from primary.
