A prompt action by the Indian Army averted a major fire incident in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said on Friday.
A petrol tanker met with an accident and rolled down near Char Chinar in Banihal while on the way to Srinagar from Jammu.
The truck driver sustained injuries in the mishap.
Jammu based Defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal on Friday said that a fire broke out in an oil tanker at Chareel, in Banihal area of Ramban district.
“Promt reaction by Emergency Response Team of IndianArmy averted major fire incident,” said the PRO.
He added that the WhiteKnight Warriors doused fire and prevented it from spreading further.
However, police said that the oil leaking from the one chamber of the tanker could have been disastrous, had the Indian Army along with fire tenders, police and volunteers would not have acted promptly.
Injured driver identified as Jagvinder Singh of Handwara, Kashmir has been hospitalised.
