Police in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday said they apprehended three alleged Over Ground Workers (OGWs) after the Facial Recognition System (FRS), deployed as part of the security arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra, generated alerts about the suspects.
According to a police statement, the advanced surveillance system flagged three suspicious individuals as they were passing through the Sarbal area. Acting promptly on the alerts, police personnel intercepted the trio and carried out identity verification.
During the verification process, all three individuals were identified as OGWs, the statement said.
Police said the suspects were immediately taken into custody on the basis of intelligence generated through the Facial Recognition System and the subsequent verification. Further legal proceedings have been initiated against them.
The police said the successful detection demonstrated the effectiveness of technology-driven policing and highlighted the role of advanced surveillance systems in strengthening the security grid during the annual pilgrimage.
