US projectile strikes perimeter area of Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant

Date:

A US projectile struck the perimeter area of Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant on Thursday, according to Iranian state media, amid Washington’s intensifying military campaign on Iran’s southern coast.

Iran’s official IRNA news agency, citing Bushehr Province Deputy Governor Ehsan Jahangirian, reported that several locations across the province were hit during the latest wave of US strikes, including areas surrounding the Bushehr nuclear facility, the Choghaddak military base and a fishing pier in the coastal city of Asaluyeh.

Jahangirian said no casualties had been reported from the strikes in Bushehr Province. However, Iran’s Health Ministry said earlier that at least 14 people had been killed across southern Iran during two days of US military operations.

According to the official, the Benoud fishing pier in Asaluyeh was among the sites targeted. Several fishing vessels belonging to local residents caught fire following the attack, he said.

Emergency and rescue teams were deployed to the affected areas, with authorities assessing the extent of the damage and working to secure the sites that were hit.

US President Donald Trump has previously stated that American operations would focus on small vessels allegedly being operated by IRGC forces to deploy naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz and nearby waters.

On Wednesday, CENTCOM said it had struck around 90 Iranian targets, including air defence systems, missile and drone storage facilities, naval assets and logistics infrastructure along Iran’s southern coastline.

The Bushehr nuclear power plant, Iran’s only operational nuclear energy facility, is located on the country’s Gulf coast and has long been regarded as one of the most strategically sensitive sites in the region.

Neither Washington nor CENTCOM has publicly confirmed that the nuclear facility itself was targeted. Iranian officials said the strike affected the surrounding perimeter area, while no reports have emerged of damage to the plant’s reactors or nuclear infrastructure.
