Abrogation of Article 370 fulfils Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s vision: BJP President Nitin Nabin

BJP president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday said the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a fitting tribute to the vision and sacrifice of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

Paying floral tributes to Mookerjee on his 73rd martyrdom day at the BJP headquarters, Nabin described him as a staunch nationalist, visionary leader and one of the key architects of modern India who dedicated his life to the country’s unity and integrity.

He said Mookerjee’s dream of complete national integration has been realised through the removal of Article 370, which had granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

“The abrogation of Article 370 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a true tribute to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He devoted his life to building a strong and united India, and today his vision is becoming a reality,” Nabin said.

The BJP leader also remembered Mookerjee’s contributions as independent India’s first Industry Minister and praised his unwavering commitment to national unity.

Nabin was joined at the tribute ceremony by BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh and senior party leader Vasundhara Raje.

Dr Mookerjee, one of the founding leaders of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh, was a vocal opponent of Article 370. He had argued that the provision weakened national integration and famously coined the slogan, “Ek desh mein do vidhan, do pradhan aur do nishan nahi chalenge” (One country cannot have two constitutions, two prime ministers and two flags).

BJP units across the country observed his martyrdom day by paying floral tributes and remembering his contribution to nation-building. In Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and several other party leaders also paid homage and planted saplings in his memory.(KINS)
