Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on Tuesday received a detailed briefing from security officials on border security measures and the preparedness of armed forces following the success of Operation Sindoor.
Committee member Rajiv Shukla said the interaction with Army, security and defence officials focused on border protection, lessons learnt from Operation Sindoor and future security requirements.
The committee, chaired by Shashi Tharoor, is on a four-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to review strategic border management and foreign policy-related issues. The members will visit Kargil and Leh to assess the security situation in frontier areas.
Shukla said the panel’s primary focus is India-Pakistan relations, border security and measures needed to strengthen the country’s defence preparedness while boosting confidence among people living in border areas.
Commenting on the Iran-US ceasefire efforts, Shukla said an early restoration of peace would benefit India by easing disruptions to trade and energy supplies, particularly through the Strait of Hormuz.(KINS)
