Srinagar, May 23 (UNI) J&K Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a junior Assistant of Social Welfare Department, Sopore for demanding bribe for release of financial assistance in favour of a handicapped person.
ACB in a statement said that Bashir Ahmad, working as a clerk in tehsil social welfare office, Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is demanding bribe for releasing financial assistance in favour of her handicapped wife.
The financial assistance was being given by the Social Welfare Department which was stopped a few years back on the pretext to furnish a fresh medical certificate of his wife.
The complainant had submitted the fresh medical certificate but the financial assistance was not restored by the concerned clerk who was demanding a bribe of Rs 5000 for processing his case.
A Case was registered in Police Station ACB Baramulla and the investigation had started.

The ACB team caught the accused official red handed while demanding and accepting bribe from the complainant.
He was arrested and the bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses. Searches were also conducted in the residence of the accused.
It is pertinent to mention here that the accused was already under trial in a case pertaining to ‘Misappropriation of Government funds for disbursement among the beneficiaries under National old age pension Scheme’.
Further investigation is on going.
