ACB arrests PHE engineer in Awantipora in bribery case

The Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau on Saturday trapped and arrested an Executive Engineer of the Jal Shakti department in Awantipora sub district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe in connection with clearance of bills.

ACB said that it received a written complaint that Executive Engineer Jal Shakti (PHE) Mechanical Division South Awantipora, Manzoor Ahmad Dar was demanding a bribe of Rs 20,000 for clearing of bills on account of Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) works carried out by the complainant at the said Mechanical Division, out of which Rs 8,000 had already been paid earlier, while the remaining Rs 12,000 was demanded for final bill clearance.

The complainant chose not to pay bribe and instead approached Anti Corruption Bureau for taking legal action against the said Executive Engineer as envisaged under law.

On receipt of the complaint, a discreet verification was conducted by ACB which confirmed the demand by the said government employee and accordingly a case u/s 7 of P/C Act 1988 read with amendment Act-2018 was registered in Police station ACB Anantnag and investigation was taken up.

“During the course of investigation a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught the said Govt. employee Manzoor Ahmad Dar of Daf Pora Budgam red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe. He was arrested on the spot and bribe amount was also recovered from his possession in the presence of independent witnesses associated with the trap team,” ACB said.

Subsequently, a search of the residential premises of the accused government employee was carried out in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses.
