ACB arrests revenue officer in J&K’s Pulwama for taking bribe

Jammu & Kashmir’s Anti Corruption Bureau on Tuesday arrested a senior revenue officer for allegedly accepting bribe in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

A Selection Grade police Constable was also arrested for “facilitating” the offence.

The ACB received a complaint against Naib Tehsildar, Khrew, Pulwama Maqbool Hussain Dar alleging therein that officer was demanding Rs 10,000 from complainant through his clerk Ajaz Ahmad for settlement of dispute of ancestral land at village Sathpokhran, Khrew Pulwama.

The complainant approached the Tehsil Office Khrew several times for settlement of the dispute, but the Naib Tehsildar didn’t budge. Moreover the complainant was harassed through notices by the said Naib Tehsildar, the ACB said in a statement.

It added that the complainant approached ACB for taking necessary action against the said Naib-Tehsildar and his clerk.

On receipt of the complaint, a case under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 was registered at Police Station ACB Anantnag and investigation was taken up.

“During the course of investigation, a trap team was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused Maqbool Hussain Dar of Nooripor, Pattan red handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from the complainant. The Sg Constable Ajaz Ahmad, attached with the Naib Tehsildar was also arrested for facilitating the commission of offence,” the statement said.

The ACB said further investigation into the case is going on.
