Jammu and Kashmir Police today solved a blind murder case and arrested an accused within 24 hours in Kathua district.
Police said that under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police, Kathua Mohita Sharma, a blind murder case was solved in which the accused person was arrested and the weapon of offence (bat) was also seized.
Police said that a report was received that two brothers, namely Nakul Singh (18) and Nikhil Singh (16), sons of Late Balbir Singh, residents of Ward No. 10, Kathua, had allegedly been attacked with an intention to kill and were lying in a pool of blood at their house in a critically injured condition on May 6.
On receiving information, a case was registered and investigation was initiated.
Both the injured persons were immediately shifted to Government Medical College Kathua for treatment, where doctors declared Nakul Singh as “brought dead”, while the condition of Nikhil Singh was found critical and was further referred to AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu, for advanced treatment.
The body of Nakul Singh was shifted for postmortem.
Acting swiftly, police team rushed to the spot, secured the crime scene, called the FSL and initiated legal formalities.
During inspection of the scene of crime, it was found that the iPhone belonging to the deceased Nakul Singh was missing and relevant material evidence was seized and e-Sakshya proceedings were conducted as per law, said police.
During the course of investigation, several suspects were rounded up and questioned in detail, said police, adding, “The ESU team conducted CDR/technical analysis, which provided a lead.”
Thereafter sustained interrogation of suspect Parth Verma alias Sumit, resident of Ward No. 9 Kathua was done in which he admitted his involvement in the commission of crime.
The missing iPhone of deceased Nakul Singh was also recovered on his disclosure in front of magistrate.
During interrogation, he disclosed that on the fateful day at around 10:40 AM, he visited the house of Nakul Singh.
He further stated that he made a phone call to Mohit alias Bobby from Nakul Singh’s phone at 11:35 AM and around 12:40 PM to 12:50 PM, an argument and physical scuffle reportedly broke out between Nakul Singh and Parth Verma over a love interest, which soon turned into heated verbal exchange, during which Parth Verma allegedly picked up a cricket bat lying in the room and struck Nakul Singh on the head, causing him to collapse.
Meanwhile, Nikhil Singh, younger brother of Nakul Singh, returned home from outside and entered the house.
Fearing that he would be caught, the accused allegedly attacked Nikhil Singh multiple times on the head with the same cricket bat, causing him to fall unconscious. After committing the crime, the accused allegedly left the cricket bat at the scene, took away Nakul Singh’s iPhone, and fled from the spot, said police.
In the evening, the victims’ mother, Jyoti Devi, returned home from the office and discovered her sons lying in a pool of blood.
Further investigation is in progress, said police.
