In its bid to combat corruption, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered 87 First Information Reports (FIRs) in Jammu and Kashmir this year, officials said.

Among the 87 FIRs, 42 were registered in the Jammu division and 45 in the Kashmir valley, with J&K anti-corruption watchdog showing its commitment to ensure good governance and curb dishonest practices in the Union Territory.

In a statement on Tuesday, ACB said among the cases, 23 were trap cases, and 13 involved are disproportionate assets cases. Additionally, 32 cases were charge-sheeted in courts, highlighting the bureau’s thorough investigations and evidence collection efforts.

The ACB’s key achievements in 2024, the bureau issued 42,521 vigilance clearances through its online portal, facilitating processes like promotions, retirements, regularizations, and NOCs for travel abroad. In 16 cases, FIRs were registered against revenue officials and land mafias involved in the illegal usurpation of custodian land in areas like Asarwan, Mishriwala, and Bhalwal in Jammu district.

The officers associated with the ACB also underwent specialized training at the CBI Academy in Ghaziabad, enhancing their skills in handling cases involving traps, disproportionate assets, and abuse of official positions. Internal workshops were also organized for better appreciation of evidence.

ACB examined numerous complaints received via its “Satrak Nagrik Mobile App”, WhatsApp helpline, email, and other channels. Of 2,772 cases forwarded to District Vigilance Officers (DVOs), 2,434 were resolved.

“The bureau celebrated UT Vigilance Awareness Week, National Vigilance Awareness Week, and International Anti-Corruption Day to educate stakeholders about anti-corruption laws and the importance of transparency in governance,” the statement said.

“The ACB emphasized that tackling corruption requires collective efforts from both the government and the public and urged citizens to report instances of corruption through legal channels, with the assurance of immediate action, including raids, arrests, and trials,” it added.
