Amid fears of a possible United States strike on Iran, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Tuesday urged students and residents from Jammu and Kashmir currently in Iran to return home immediately.
Reacting to India’s fresh advisory asking its nationals to leave Iran using available means, Abdullah warned that delays could leave families in distress if airspace closures or conflict disrupt travel.
“I want to tell the children of Jammu and Kashmir to leave immediately. Otherwise, tomorrow when the airspace is closed, their parents and families will raise concerns and panic,” Abdullah told reporters in Srinagar.
The former Chief Minister advised them to return before conditions worsen, cautioning that evacuation may become difficult later.
“It is better to leave before that situation arises, because later there may be no one to evacuate them.
Since the advisory has already been issued, they should pack up and return home,” he added.
The Embassy of India in its latest advisory on Monday asked its citizens to “leave Iran by available means of transport, including commercial flights.”
The former Chief minister Abdullah also launched a sharp attack on the media while responding to a question about the film “The Kerala Story 2” which has sparked political controversy, saying the press lacks credibility and public trust.
“First of all I would like to say that our media cannot be trusted. It is based on lies and is suppressed under the government. There is no value in talking in front of it,” he said.
